The Saint-Antoine Convent: Founded in 1420 in the town of Casabianca, the Saint-Antoine convent (or Cunventu Sant'Antone di a Casabianca in Corsica) is a Mecca of the history of Corsica. This place has seen the holding of many "consultations" or meetings of Corsican insurgents from the eighteenth century. Today in ruins, there remains only the main frame with its steeple, decorated with frescoes and ornaments still visible. The convent was famous for having welcomed in July 1755 a cunsulta where Pasquale Paoli was proclaimed Capugenerale di a Nazione Corsa, general-in-chief of the Corsican Nation. This date marked the beginning of his reign as well as the beginning of the independence of the island, then under the domination of the Republic of Genoa. A commemorative plaque recalls today these events.
