Located in the department of Pas-de-Calais, Carvin is an old mining town of about 17 300 inhabitants. It takes place about ten kilometers from Lens, and about sixteen kilometers from Lille, great tourist city in the region. Housed in the former Artois, the common Carvin extends over 2 000 hectares in a swampy area.
According significant archaeological excavations in the late 2000s, the city of Carvin have been a settlement since the Neolithic. Former agricultural and market town, it has experienced significant urban development in the eighteenth century, before becoming a center of mining. With the decision of this industry in the 1990s, Carvin has gradually turned towards the residential and services.
