A small seaside resort of Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, Carry-le-Rouet takes place in the heart of the Bouches-du-Rhone, just 30 kilometers from the city of Marseille. The town is located on the famous Côte Bleue, not far from Martigues, and offers its visitors some of the most beautiful beaches in the department.
Located on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, this commune of the south of France really develops in the sixteenth century, being built around a tower of defense. The arrival of the railway in the first half of the twentieth century gives it an important success, especially with the Marseillais who install their summer quarters. The station was a land of welcome for the French actor Fernandel, or for the American singer Nina Simone.
Even today, Carry-le-Rouet is experiencing an important summer tourism with visitors eager to discover a preserved and authentic nature.
Carry-le-Rouet is mainly appreciated for its nature and exceptional landscapes. One benefits there in particular of several beaches with clear waters like the ones of the Calanque of Cap Rousset, the Tuilière, the Rouet, or even Fernandel. There is no shortage of activities and there are also pleasant walks. Several diving spots of the municipality also have an excellent reputation.
The city is home to the Côte Bleue marine park, a marine reserve of more than 85 hectares with the objective of protecting underwater species and flora. Carry Wood, an important wooded area, also attracts visitors for walks and other outdoor activities. Do not miss to walk on the calanques which offer an impregnable view on the surroundings and the Big Blue.
Dominating the harbor of Marseilles, the chapel of the Rouet dates from the middle of the XIVe century. Rebuilt twice over time, it takes place on the Cape of the Virgin, east of the beach of Rouet. Every year, at the beginning of September, it celebrates the blessing of the sea and boats.
A charming marina takes place in Carry-le-Rouet, revealing several terraces of friendly restaurants, as well as a beautiful view of the fishing and pleasure boats and the Mediterranean Sea.
The market takes place on Tuesday and Friday mornings. A fish market is also organized every morning on the port of Carro. The town also offers a charming Christmas market at the end of the year.
A true institution of the seaside resort, the Ursinades are held all the month of February, offering tastings of sea urchins as well as numerous animations. Every Sunday of the month, a painting exhibition is also organized.
Every year in June, the Festilivres offers meetings and dedications of authors on a chosen theme.
In July, place to the election of Miss Blue Coast.
The Boogie Woogie festival takes place in July, as is the jazz festival and the Latino Tango festival attracting visitors from all over the world.
A show of water and light with DJ is proposed every July 14th for the National Day.
As of 15 August, the city organizes a fireworks display in music.
September in the Sea prolongs the summer season, including the crossing, a three-kilometer swimming race, Carro-Carry, a seaside race organized on the last weekend of September, and the European Heritage Days.
