Small town of Vaucluse located 180 meters above sea level, at the foot of the Paty hills, Caromb takes place between the Mont Ventoux and the Dentelles de Montmirail, about ten kilometers from Carpentras.
Populated since the Gallo-Roman era, the territory of Caromb developed in the Middle Ages, passing into the hands of different lords over the centuries. But it is for its viticultural production that the municipality of Caromb was mainly illustrated in the modern era. It is notably part of the production areas of the AOC Côtes du Ventoux.
Important tourist site in the department, Caromb reveals a rich architectural and historical heritage, as well as a very dynamic cultural view, organizing events throughout the year on all themes.
Listed as an historic monument, the Saint-Maurice church is a Romanesque building built between the 11th and 12th centuries. Following modifications, she saw her Romanesque apse replaced by a gothic chevron style chevet. Inside, one can admire a Provencal organ buffet of the eighteenth century, as well as the tomb of Etienne de Vesc, aristocrat of the fifteenth century, installed in the Gothic seigniorial chapel.
As you walk through this small and authentic town, you will be able to discover the remains of the old ramparts, the belfry, or many fountains, like the castle square, dating from the middle of the 19th century. 14th century, and included in the supplementary inventory of Historic Monuments.
Do not forget to take the botanical path that takes place around The Haunted House, a house of the seventeenth century that was inhabited, according to legend, by the Barberini brothers, nephews of Pope Urban VIII.
Around the town, it is possible to explore the Lake Paty eighteenth century, with its tavern, or discover small dry stone huts that once had a farm use.
In the Saint-Marc cooperative winery, which produces Ventoux AOC, you can, in addition to tasting, discover the museum of old wine-making tools.
