Carnetin is a small village in Île-de-France, located in the department of Seine-et-Marne, near Lagny-sur-Marne.
Dominating the valley of the Marne in situation of promontory, the territory of Carnetin offers to its inhabitants an exceptional quality of life at a short distance from the big cities. The village is built on a plateau overlooking the Marne Valley to the northeast 2.5 km north-west of Thorigny-sur-Marne.
In 1789, Carnetin was part of the election of Meaux and the generality of Paris and followed the custom of Paris.
At the beginning of the 20th century, Carnetin was a literary holiday resort; the writers Charles-Louis Philippe, Marguerite Audoux, Leon-Paul Fargue, Francis Jourdain, Leon Werth and some others were there every Sunday in a house rented together, to escape the Parisian life while working on their work. They formed, from 1904 to 1907, the "group of Carnetin".
