Carlux is a small village in the Dordogne located near the town of Sarlat-la-Canéda. It was an important seat in the Middle Ages, including the presence of a castle of the tenth century.
This former Viscount is now mainly on tourism, offering the possibility to admire some beautiful vestiges of its illustrious past. Carlux is indeed a paradise for lovers of old stones and history.
Dynamic, the village offers various animations that entertain locals and visitors, many in summer. The proximity to the most beautiful sights of the Dordogne also offers Carlux a small reputation among those wishing to explore this part of south - western France.
Ancient medieval Carlux has still some interesting vestiges of this glorious era.
Listed historic monument, Castle Carlux is now in ruins. It was built probably in the tenth century, and the building has been modified several times over the centuries because of widespread looting and other fires. The castle is, since several years, the object of volunteers renovations.
Built in the first half of the fourteenth century, in full Hundred Years War, St. Catherine church has a mixture of Romanesque and Gothic. Its portal was listed historic monument in the early twentieth century. In a sober elegance, the religious building allows to admire such a painted wooden Pietà seventeenth century.
In the village, visitors can enjoy a beautiful Gothic fireplace dating from the fourteenth century. Dubbed the Saracen chimney, it is classified as an historic monument.
At the foot of the hill of Pujols, one discovers remains of an ancient hermitage.
A hall built in the nineteenth century still stands proudly in the village of Carlux.
Several castles embellish Carlux and its surroundings, like the castle of Rignac or that of Rouffillac. The two buildings, private, are really charming manor.
Each year in August, the village holds its festival pancakes. The event is always accompanied by an original race of donkeys. The money collected during the event helps fund the restoration of the castle Carlux.

- Born in 1941 in South Africa, Joseph embraced photography at an early age, before moving to the UK in 1960 to pursue his studies in London. - In 1964, Joseph was sent to Vietnam to document the war through his lens. On his return, his expertise quickly earned him professional opportunities, notably in the realization of complex advertising campaigns. - His reputation was cemented by his ability to capture group images, often featuring animals. - This remarkable talent attracted the attention of the Rolling Stones, who commissioned him to take the series of photos for their new album, entitled "Beggars' Banquet", in 1968.
