Things to see and do

Former capital of a Gallic people during the Roman occupation, Carhaix-Plouguer still has many vestiges of that era, as well as architectural and cultural heritage.

The archaeological reserve of the Gallo-Roman city of Vorgium, located in the city center, has helped to highlight the glorious past of Carhaix-Plouguer in Roman times. Even today, one can admire various ancient remains.

Romanesque church Saint-Pierre de Plouguer was repeatedly rebuilt, and today has Gothic and Renaissance elements. Built in the eleventh century, it was remodeled in the sixteenth century and restored in the mid-20s following a fire.

Built in the late nineteenth century, St. Trémeur church is Gothic Revival and has a beautiful bell tower of Gothic style.

Walking through the city, one can discover beautiful buildings like the house of the Seneschal, hosting today the Tourist Office, built in the sixteenth century and classified historic monument for its facades. The bridge of Petit Carhaix, the eighteenth century, and the Moulin-Meur, of the same time, do not miss either of interest.

Built in 1760, the current castle was built Kerampuil for one of the ancestors of the squire Bertrand Duguesclin. Its facade and roof were listed in the inventory of Historical Monuments.
