Carennac

The village Carennac developed from the 11th century after the founding of a priory of the Order of Cluny. Nestled along the walls of the monastery, it retains many aspects of the Middle Ages. The church Saint-Pierre is a beautiful Romanesque building with a magnificent 12th century tympanum. Cloister, rebuilt in the 15th century after the Hundred Years War, contains in its chapter house's famous Entombment, sculpture of the late 15th century of rare perfection.

The 16th century marked a revival of Carennac: he sees the construction of the castle of Dean, whose facade of white stone of the country, mullioned windows, the carved windows, is reflected in the calm waters of the Dordogne.
