Rural town of the Pyrénées-Orientales, in the Occitanie region, Caramany takes place about thirty kilometers from the very touristic city of Perpignan. Known for its lake and vineyards, it is located not far from Montalba-le-Château, Ansigna and Bélesta.
Occupied since the Neolithic period, as evidenced by the archaeological excavations carried out during the construction of the dam, the territory of Caramany continued to develop in the Middle Ages, in particular thanks to the influence of the Agly river. Definitively attached to the kingdom of France in the middle of the 13th century, this city in the south-west of France owes its development in particular to its vines which, between the 18th and 19th centuries, gradually replaced the old cereal crops. Caramany is now part of the Roussillon vineyard, as well as the Côtes-du-Roussillon villages appellation.
