New town of Lozère created in January 2016, Cans et Cévennes takes place at about forty kilometers from Mende, not far from Ispagnac, Gabriac or Florac Trois Rivières. It comes from the grouping of Saint-Julien-d'Arpaon and Saint-Laurent-de-Trèves.
Former Roman stronghold, the territory of Cans et Cévennes also served as relay stagecoach. Populated since prehistoric times, as evidenced by the remains found on site, it also experienced a boom in the Gallo-Roman era with the establishment of an oppidum. Mainly mentioned sheep farming in the Middle Ages, it became an important bastion of Protestantism in the sixteenth century.
Today, Cans et Cévennes continues to attract visitors with its unspoiled natural landscapes, historical heritage and ideal location for exploring the region.
