Calvinet:
- The origin of its name comes from a certain Calvinus, a Latin or a Romanized Gaul from the Gallo-Roman era. The original nucleus of the village extended on the heights around a castle.
- Eustache de Beaumarchais, bailiff of the Auvergne mountains, found a wife in Calvinet. After the creation of a barony, he built a castle (a chapel in the place of the Castle?) This castle, irregular heptagon, had for the defense of the wall, a square tower at each angle. There was no ditch because of the rocky slope making access difficult. The main gate to the west was in the middle of a tower and had a drawbridge over the only moat. A citadel tower was in the east with a ravelin roof (sources Les lauriers Triomphants du grand alcide gaulois. Louis XIII. BNF). Eustache de Beaumarchais issued a charter to the inhabitants. Sénéchal, he fought a lot and built bastides. He left this land before having carried out an act which was dear to him: the creation of a parish in Calvinet and the construction of a church. His daughter, Marie, in difficulty, could not carry out this project and the barony and all its lands were sold.
- Pierre II of the life of Villemur, Lord of Villemur became the new owner. Pope John XXII elected in 1316 was his uncle, a native of Cahors in the Lot. Pierre II de la Vie was an official in Avignon, his brother Arnaud was Cardinal
- In 1317 John XXII created the diocese of St Flour and responded to the request of Pierre II de la Vie. He created the parish of Calvinet in 1330 and authorized the construction of the St Barthélémy church. This was built in 1331.
- Transmitted by inheritance then sold the castle arrived at the domain of the crown. Calvinet was also a Protestant place to reduce attacks, the castle of Calvinet was razed in 1634, although attached to the royal domain.
- So as not to forget its former presence: a remainder of the wall visible from the road and part of a tower fixed in the ground during the demolition.
- Louis XIII king of France made a gift to Honoré II Grimaldi, sovereign prince of Monaco, who had abandoned the protectorate of Spain, of the viscount of Carlat set up as a county. When the prince had joined the French protectorate, he was offered the barony of Calvinet.
- From 1643, all the princes of Monaco of the Grimaldi line were Count of Carladès, Baron de Calvinet, two titles of nobility by male descent.
- The Revolution put an end to the possessions of the Monegasque family in Cantal.
- The link between Calvinet and Monaco exists and lives: official visits, in Cantal: Calvinet 2014 or on the Rock: reception of representatives of the former Grimaldi strongholds.
- The village of Calvinet is part of this network: a sign located at the entrance of the village for information.
- The town spread across the plain in the 19th century at the expense of the neighboring towns of Cassaniouze and Mourjou. It was at this time that Calvinet took off thanks to the success of its fairs and the opening of the road from Maurs to Montsalvy.
- The town of Calvinet has received the "Bourg-Center" label from the Auvergne Regional Council for shops, services and medical services.
- Leisure: camping, swimming, fishing, tennis, hiking, pétanque.
