The hotel is located Escoville St. Peter's Square, in the historic center of Caen. It now houses including the siege of the city tourist office.
The mansion regarded as the finest example of Renaissance architecture in Caen was built after 1533 on behalf of Nicolas Escoville rich merchant knighted in 1522.
The work took ten years to form four buildings including a main building, a pavilion and wings surrounding a courtyard rich richly decorated.
Many owners follow one another over the centuries, but the vast majority, they often rent the halls of the building to the city authorities to organize ceremonies or receive important guests.
Very damaged during the Battle of Caen in 1944 following the Allied landings in Normandy, Hotel Escoville undergone a restoration in 1960.
If the facade is still severe, even austere, the court and its exceptional decoration have recovered all their splendor. Following the tradition of the Renaissance, mingle themes of biblical inspiration and references to ancient times.
Besides the remarkable elements (loggia, high roofs, lanterns and skylights) admired particularly the statues that we thought long have been created by artists from Italy.
The courtyard of the building, protected as historical monuments can be visited in the opening hours of the tourist office.
