Name of the inhabitants: the Buressois and Buressoises.
Area: 405 hectares, 20% of which is made up of protected wood.
The city center station and the Hacquinière station are located 35 minutes from Paris by RER line B. In the heart of the Chevreuse Valley, old millstone houses from the beginning of the 20th century and modern pavilions coexist, without altering the charm of this ancient village often sketched by painters.
City Gateway to the Regional Natural Park of the Vallée de Chevreuse, a green region protected along the Yvette river.
Bures has many historic sites: the 17th century Saint-Matthieu church, the Pérolat municipal park, the Grande Maison, the redeveloped Fauvettes viaduct where you can practice hiking and rock climbing, the Fountain of Youth de la Hacquinière. Many footpaths favor the walk along the wooded hillsides, and around the perimeter of the retention basin.
Bures hosts part of the University of Paris-Sud, the Institute of Advanced Scientific Studies (IHES), and the Institute and Center of Optometry, which trains the opticians and eyewearmakers of tomorrow, and houses a museum dedicated to ophthalmic optics.
Very close to the university area of Paris-Saclay and its many schools and research laboratories: Polytechnique, CEA, CNRS, ENS, Centrale-Supelec, Synchrotron Soleil...
Quality programming and workshops creation and leisure activities are offered at the Marcel Pagnol Cultural Center, at the library and at the Grande Maison.
Numerous sports activities and events (Raid 28, 12 hours of Bures) take place at the Louis Chabrat Center (gymnasium, stadium, tennis, dojo) and at the Léo-Lagrange course, promoting a very rich collective life.
Bures-sur-Yvette is also a Trail Station and offers many marked trails in the middle of the surrounding woods.
