Located in the vineyard on the foothills of the Jura massif, the site of Bréry because of its privileged location, close to a river, on a sunny hillside and fed by many sources, is inhabited well before the Roman occupation. At the origin of Christianity in the region, a baptistery was raised near a spring. The monks of Baume-le-Moines transformed it into a priory around 1100.
The village suffered from diseases, fires, invasions but will not be affected by the cholera wave in 1854. However phylloxera will devastate the 160 hectares of vines.
A specialty that has not lasted: the pie with tadpoles (or sculpins, small fish of the Seille)!
An ancient tradition still perpetuated: the fayes, on Christmas Eve, we turn pieces of linden to celebrate the return of the sun.
