Brassy is a commune with a vast area (5400 ha). It was once very populated (1922 inhabitants in 1866, 2341 in 1881). Of Gallo-Roman origin as its old name "Braciacum" reminds us, it was crossed by an old Roman road which linked Autun to Entrains.
The original church, dedicated to St-Gervais and St-Protais, dates from the 16th century but it was burned down on May 14, 1848 along with the presbytery and the surrounding dwellings before being remodeled in the 19th century. The new tower was built in 1852. Recent years have seen its partial restoration giving it a new lease of life.
There are many village shops such as a grocery store, butcher-delicatessen, bakery-pastry shop, café. Finally, a road transport company, a garage, a trade in building materials and a taxi-ambulance company.
This commune is part of the Community of Communes of the Portes du Morvan.
