The chapel of Saint-Pierre Extravache is considered the oldest church in the Savoy. It is Bramans in Haute Maurienne, in the valley of Planay. It faces the top of the "Dent Parrachée", a 3687 m peak.
It symbolizes the beginning of Christianity in Savoie. It was founded by two disciples of St. Peter: Elijah and Miletus. The present church dates from the 10th century, can be reached by road to the valley of Ambin.
The apse retains traces of a fresco from the early 17th century: Christ in Majesty above a representation of the apostles.
The etymology of the name comes from the decomposition Extravache of it in "Extra" and "Vaaque" Extra = outside = Vaaque and wasteland.
