Of very ancient origin, the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption in Bouin, in Vendée, dates from the 12th century. Largely burned at the end of the 15th century during the invasion of King Louis XI, it was completely rebuilt in the 15th century, however revealing some original parts such as the lower part of the bell tower, the bedside wall or still the old sacristy.

Stable during the French Revolution, it was enlarged in the 19th century and was then adorned with incredible decoration. The altarpieces of the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption of Bouin, in particular, are not lacking in interest. Visitors will particularly notice the 18th century high altar with its tabernacle made in an elegant Baroque style.

The bell tower, 51 meters high, still serves today as a landmark for sailors in the Bay of Bourgneuf.
