Biguglia commune is located in the heart of the natural reserve of Biguglia pond in the Haute-Corse department, approximately 5 kilometers south of Bastia, on the edge of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The history of the city dates back to ancient times but takes its importance in the Middle Ages. Towards 1409, Biguglia was in fact the capital of the island! At that time, the town was an important economic center and a shelter for the people, the lords of Biguglia is being placed under the protection and authority of the city of Pisa in Italy. The city still bears the scars of this rich past with Roman road connecting pieces to the Mariana Nebbio remaining, and ruins such as those of the former Church of St. Andrew and the foundations of the old castle Biguglia.
