The Biterrois Museum is Béziers in Herault. Labeled Museum of France, the facility created in 1834 is housed in a barracks built in 1702 to plans by the architect of King On Aviler. On more than 3000 m², it presents collections from donations from three local scientific societies dedicated to archeology, natural science and history of Old Béziers.
The purpose of the museum is to explain the history and evolution of human groups on Béziers and its surroundings from prehistoric times to the present. No component is forgotten: social life is reviewed at the mercy of developments and technical revolutions, cultural and economic.
The visitor can understand from the natural environment, between sea and mountains, the southern edge of the Massif Central to the coast, how human societies are organized and introduced him of economic activity that made the richness of the territory. The first settlements influenced by Greek culture, Celtiberian, Gallo-Roman development of viticulture in the nineteenth century that made the richness of Béziers through episodes linked to the Cathars in the Middle Ages, each period is screened.
The evolution of the urban habitat and the popular neighborhoods like the two world wars are also studied through objects, tools, paintings, papers of various kinds.
