Lake Bourdouze is located in the town of Besse-et-Saint-Anastaise, in the Puy-de-Dôme, and it is located 10 km south-east of the Super-Besse station (by road).
Covering an area of 25 hectares, including a peat bog, it was formed from a depression of glacial origin 12,000 years ago.
Culminating at an altitude of 1150 m, its depth reaches 4 m in places.
The lake is accessible to fishermen (presence of pike or perch) and it is renowned for its specific flora due to the peat bog (such is the case of the Siberian ligular which flowers in summer). This same bog also prevents walkers from being able to walk around the lake, but a footpath allows easy access from the road linking Besse to Compains.
The site, surrounded by greenery and overlooked by the peaks, is a haven of peace.
