La Villa Lorraine is a house located at Besançon, in the Doubs, located at 18 rue de Vittel.
It was built in 1908 on the plans of the architect Maurice Forien, to whom we owe the Casino and the Grande Poste in this same town. He also drew plans for other houses on this street in the Chaprais district, on the right bank of the Cours du Doubs, north of the historic center. This district had remained rural in the 19th century, occupied by market gardeners, before experiencing significant urbanization during the 20th century.
Now listed in the Inventory but also labeled "20th Century Heritage", Maison Lorraine has been deliberately given an asymmetrical facade, with bays (windows) of various shapes. We also notice that the materials are multiple (stones, bricks, metal elements, wrought iron…).
Certain openings feature Art Nouveau-style stained-glass windows designed by master glassmaker Gorgeon. Inside, marble fireplaces, decorated ceilings and modernist sanitary facilities (for the time) have been preserved.
A garden with shed and laundry room surrounds the building.
This example of original architecture typical of the early twentieth century can mark a walk through this district. Inquire on +33 3 81 80 92 55.
