Located at 140 Grande Rue in Besançon, the birthplace of Victor Hugo is now open to the public. Thanks to a contemporary and playful scenography, the site traces the battles of the French writer through various exhibitions and other cultural events.
Labeled Maisons des Illustres, the building listed in the Historic Monuments for its facades and roofs notably unveils a large number of documents, photographs, engravings and other videos on this great man.
Property of the city since the 1930s, the apartment has since undergone major restoration campaigns before being opened to the public in 2013. On the ground floor, it is also possible to discover the reconstruction of Jacques de Besançon pharmacy with period decoration.
