The common Berrias-et-Casteljau, born from the association of two communities, occupies a special position in the South Ardeche. At the mouth of the gorges of Chassezac, the main hamlets and the village are located on the edge of a vast fertile agricultural plain that occupies just under half the total communal area. It is drained by the Granzon, a tributary of Chassezac. Agricultural activity is mainly oriented towards the vines, grains and seeds. Crossing the major road south of the Ardèche, the county 104, Berrias-et-Casteljau has the characteristics of a rural town with a perennial agriculture. This activity is complemented by the existence of a textile factory and a tourist and leisure economy, induced by its landscape, the presence of Chassezac and proximity to tourist centers of Vans and Vallon Pont d'Arc which should lie Space Return of the Chauvet Cave.
The population has increased steadily since the early 80s.
