Located in the heart of Normandy, 150 km from Paris, Deauville 55 km and 58 km from Rouen, Bernay enjoys a privileged location and quality of service (connection station, A28, RN13 and RN138) which further strengthens the economic and tourist attraction of its territory.

  • Abbaye Notre-Dame - Abbey: Founded in the early 11th century by Judith of Brittany, wife of Richard II, Duke of Normandy, the abbey is one of the first Bernay Romanesque churches in Normandy. 2nd Richard of Burgundy brought the monk William of Volpiano builder, architect of St. Benignus at Dijon, and companions as Isambardus. The result is rich and centuries have not dampened the majesty and beauty of this building. Stage of the historic route of Norman abbeys.
  • City Hall: The abbey buildings from the late 17th century have kept all the majesty that they had given the monks Maurists. They were converted after the revolution and now house the town hall and the court.
  • Museum of Fine Arts: Established since 1891 in the old abbey house, the building of bricks and stones from the late 16th century houses a fine collection of faience from Rouen (fund of about a thousand pieces). Over the years, major gifts and legacies have enriched and diversified the collections: Lobrot (painting), Join-Lambert (archeology), Lottin Laval (Egyptology), Delete (furniture and decorative arts) ... the quality of works presented: Tintoretto, Adrian Coorte, Constable, Valtat, Andre Mare, Duchamp-Villon, Henri de Maistre is also a reflection of the artistic wealth of the country.
  • Holy Cross Church: Begun in 1374, its construction was not completed until the late 19th century. The whole forms a coherent composition Gothic despite the contributions of the classical (XVIII) and the Revival of the late 19th century. The interior is mainly from the former abbey of Bec-Hellouin: High altar topped by eight marble columns, 16 large statues of apostles and evangelists.
  • Basilique Notre-Dame de la Couture: Founded in 1340 on the site of a chapel of the 11th century, it was established as a basilica in 1950. We discover a fine collection of stained glass windows of the fifteenth, sixteenth, seventeenth and nineteenth centuries. The building is topped by an octagonal pyramidal spire pierced at its base with four pinnacles of great lightness.
  • Multimedia Cultural Centre: The old "mill of the great tower," mill of the abbey sold after the Revolution, was completely renovated in multimedia cultural center. Enjoy the architectural achievement that combines brick, wood and glass in a harmony of old and contemporary. It now houses various media of knowledge of past and present: From legacy fund from the abbey to the new information technologies.
  • Rue Gaston Folloppe, known as antique street: The street pays homage to one of the most famous of the region resistant shot by the Germans. Now run by second-hand dealers and antique dealers, this street is a charming testimony of the past with its row of narrow frontages.
  • Jail Street: This street is typical of old Bernay has retained its charm. It will surprise you with its medieval appearance and its narrow roadway with no sidewalk, covered with rugged stones.
  • The Gabelle: Beautiful hotel built by Jacques-Philippe Bréant, salt-tax collector in the mid-18th century.   • The Franciscan monastery: Located at Rue de la Comédie, the Franciscan monastery was founded in 1275. It occupies a large space, near the Benedictine abbey and has remarkable between-studs made of small bricks arranged in decorative patterns with monograms and religious symbols.
  • Norman Homes: Bernay has a very fine collection of old houses with wood sides often decorated with carved designs from the 15th and 16th century streets of Lisieux, St. Alexander and Augustus Street Leprévost. Some of them are still visible but hidden by modern storefronts rue Thiers (No. 6 and No. 31).
  • Circuit "water, stone and wood": Explore the city through a walking tour "of water, stone and wood." Markup to the ground by drawing "the king in majesty" punctuated by explanatory signs will guide you according to your curiosity and your imagination, in the old neighborhoods rich in history and monuments to which are the pride of heritage.   • Mountains: Discover the heights of the city by walking on the mountains. The dome of green bordered by a double row of plane trees will offer an impressive view over the city and the valley. A staircase located rue du Calvaire offers access to classified site.
  • Rivers: the city is crossed by two rivers: the Charentonne Cosnier and who played an important role in the industrial life of the city during the 19th century. Many houses had a special laundry still well preserved today.
  • Green Lane Bernay-Broglie Bernay has many footpaths, including a "greenway" of 12 km directly connected to the city center (the library's garden). This route covered with asphalt allows everyone to enjoy relaxing moments in the privileged setting of the valley of Charenton.

  • Market: Saturday morning. From the 11th century, Bernay, crossed by a Roman road, took off with the institution of markets and fairs by the Benedictine monks.
