Listed as a Historic Monument since the end of the 1980s, the Saint-Raphaël de la Bastide chapel in Bédarieux, in the Hérault, takes place on the banks of the Orb and is accessible via the Boucle d'Orb trail. Composed of a single nave and a quadrangular apse, of Visigothic inspiration, it dates back to pre-Roman times. Partly redone in the 19th century, it originally served as a parish church for the Domaine de la Bastide.
Built in rubble stone assembled in a small regular structure and cut stone blocks, the Saint-Raphaël de la Bastide chapel also unveils pretty bays topped with monolithic arches. Its location could be explained by the presence of a miraculous spring which was once a place of pilgrimage for people with sick eyes and to strengthen children.
