Tower of the Horloge

Monument in Beaune

Located in the heart of downtown Beaune, the Clock Tower is a magnificent 13th century belfry built on the foundations of an older 12th century building. Listed as an historic monument, this impressive rectangular tower topped with an eight-sided lantern takes its name from Philippe III Le Bold, who had a clock added to it at the end of the 14th century.

Raised by nearly four meters at the end of the 17th century, the Clock Tower subsequently underwent a major restoration campaign, notably seeing its clock change in the second half of the 19th century.

In order to highlight the building, the town has been offering since the end of the 2000s the projection of a video animation at nightfall. The latter depicts the cogs and gears of the clock, as well as the interior of the building.
