The Faverie manor is located in the town of Beaumont-Pied-de-Bœuf, in the Sarthe department, 18 km northwest of La Chartre-sur-le-Loir.
Located to the south of the municipal territory, it was originally a stronghold mentioned as dependent on the seigniory of Beaumont-Pied-de-Boeuf then as a farm in 1407.
In the 16th century, this estate was owned by the Couette family whose members are squires and also lords of other lands. At the beginning of the 18th century, La Faverie passed through marriage to the Ledoux family and was then sold to the Lelong family, one of whose representatives was a lawyer in Parliament practicing at the seneschalsy of Château-du-Loir.
The manor and its lands were kept by the Lelongs until 1910, and throughout this period, the site was used for agricultural purposes. However, this use has not altered the elegance and nobility of the place, which was built over two centuries.
The first seigniorial residence was indeed erected at the beginning of the 16th century, following a rectangular plan, consisting of a ground floor surmounted by attics. Next to it will be a pavilion housing a spiral staircase and another, larger one. Finally, a wing will be added which will close the whole, and to the south, pavilions at the corners will be made.
Skylights decorated in the Renaissance style, particularly in the attic, are noteworthy, and we finally note that certain openings and the distribution of the interior rooms have been modified.
Outbuildings and a former dovecote complete this set. Traces of moats, defensive elements (loopholes) have been preserved. Listed in the Inventory, still private property, the mansion is open to the public in season for guided tours. Information on +33 2 43 44 35 44 or 02 72 881 88.
