Beaumont-du-Périgord - Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Dordogne

Beaumont-du-Périgord, an English-born country house located in South-West France, in Aquitaine, south of the Dordogne, in Dordogne, was founded in 1272 by the Seneschal of Guyenne, Thanay Lucas, on behalf of the King England, Edward I.

Its name comes from the Occitan "bèl Mount", "a beautiful climb" (built on a steep hill with a strategic vision 360 °) and the name of a former province of Périgord. Also, in the Middle Ages, it bore the name of Belmont Périgord.

Among the major strengths and interests of this country house is without doubt its authenticity preserved the architectural point of view.

Its central square is surrounded by angles corresponding to various shopping arcades under which they have expertise. The hall with solid wood pillars, destroyed in 1864, has recently been rebuilt exactly or substantially with the historical and archaeological study of the walled town of Léo Testut.

The Saint-Laurent and Saint-Front is one of the most beautiful fortified churches of France. With two towering dungeons, his shift, his murderous, his well, it was the last drop allowing the local population to protect themselves from invaders.

Luzier door, is one of the last preserved gates of the fortified town, recalling with its ramparts, traces of the enclosure.

The careyrous and alleys, corresponding to lanes crisscrossing the entire city were paved, perfectly restored, allowing a very unusual visit. Throughout the summer at night, you can enjoy a walk by torchlight, accompanied by medieval music, expressive in their troubadours in Occitan language and a demonstration of knight fights...

But Beaumont has other riches. It is a living village where all year festivities, events are organized by a number of local associations.

In addition, for athletes, since the church is the departure of many hiking trails, with loops of 3 to 27 km located on Country GR and GR 6.

In 2010, during the Jacobean year, took place the restoration of the ancient pilgrimage trail, cross variant of the Way of Saint Jacques de Compostela, between Rocamadour Réole. Beaumont is one of these villages steps.

Similarly, excellence allows plots as well horseback riding or mountain biking.

Also, do not forget that Périgord, the reputation of its cuisine is second to none. The village has two farmers' markets a week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays. A good time to meet the villagers and passers, a drink of Bergerac, a "tastou" of cabécou or a pig Anchaud!

For anyone wishing to discover this beautiful country that is the Bastide Country, Beaumont-du-Périgord will be a mandatory stop.
