Beaulieu-en-Argonne is a charming village in Meuse, located 35 kilometres from Bar-le-Duc and Verdun.Filled with a stunning amount of flowers, this haven of peace stands on a promontory offering a lovely view of the Meuse and the forests of the Argonne Massif, where visitors can enjoy many hikes and discover local fauna and flora.

In the 7th century, Beaulieu-en-Argonne already had an abbey, founded by a Scottish monk, St. Rouin, after whom the village church is named. Some of the abbey still remains, including an old oak press form the 13th century, of impressive dimensions: it is one of the biggest in Europe and weighs 30 tonnes! Next to it, a fresco depicts the village as it was in 1789. Outside are a few traces of the old abbey walls.

You can access the village ponds via Rue de l'Abbaye, taking the steep steps.

Nearby, close to the Hermitage of St. Rouin, don't miss the chapel of the same name, nestling at the heart of the forest. This is the work of a student of Le Corbusier, and a young Japanese artist designed the stained glass windows.

Charming little village in the Meuse, in the heart of the forest of Argonne, Beaulieu-en-Argonne takes place on a promontory of 276 meters, about thirty kilometers from Bar-le-Duc and Verdun. Occupied by an abbey from the seventh century, the town was then the subject of a wine activity on its hillsides with the presence of monks. Full of charm, Beaulieu-sur-Argonne seduces by its traditional architecture, but also by its preserved environment and its proximity to the most beautiful sights of the region.

Passing through this area of ​​eastern France, it is possible to discover an exceptional architectural and historical heritage.

It is possible to appreciate the common abbey in which is kept a press of the thirteenth century, one of the oldest in Europe.

Do not miss to go to the orientation table which allows to better identify the surrounding landscapes.

Recently, the church of Saint-Rouin, named after the founder of Beaulieu Abbey, was built in the 19th century. It contains the relics of Saint Rouin.

Built on the site of a 17th century oratory, the hermitage of Saint-Rouin is on the site where Saint Rouin lived. It is particularly possible to enjoy a holy water font by Pierre Szekely and stained glass by Kimié Bando. The set was designed by Rayssinger who has long collaborated with Henri Matisse.
