A former fortified castle from the 11th century, the castle of Beaufort, in Savoie, takes place on the hill of Vanches, dominating the confluence of Doron and Dorinet. Formerly used to control this area, it was erected on the site of an ancient Gallo-Roman villa.
Still visible today, the castle of Beaufort consists of a high enclosure with a square Romanesque keep, a large barnyard enclosed by the remains of an enclosure and a second keep from the end of the XIIIth century. Today in ruins, it is not accessible to visitors.
