Inaugurated in 1837 at the time of the arrival of Spanish and Portuguese Jews in the area, the synagogue Bayonne now has a ranking Historical Monument.
In Judeo-Portuguese architecture, the building has undergone few changes since its construction and now suffers from several ailments that should be resolved by major restoration campaigns.
