Bayon-sur-Gironde is located in the canton of Bourg en Gironde which has 15 municipalities: Saint-Ciers Canesse de Saint-Trojan, Samonac, Villeneuve, Gauriac, Teuillac, Saint-Seurin-de-Bourg, Bourg, Tauriac, Prignac-and -Marcamps, Pugnac, Lansac, Comps and Mombrier.
A few kilometers from the ancient village of Bourg, near Blaye Citadel, world heritage by UNESCO, Bayon-sur-Gironde, in 1081 hectares including 400 hectares of vineyards, with a population of 757 inhabitants. Its high point is 40 feet. Bordered on the west by the Gironde, the island Cazeau and Pointe du Bec d'Ambes are on the territory of the municipality.
The Gironde estuary was fish (lampreys, eels, shad, white shrimp). In the 19th and 20th centuries, the shipyards "Leglise" on Reuille were especially renowned for the construction of pilot boats and sailing barges that carried the stone quarries and wine barrels.
