A 14th century stately home located in the heart of the Dordogne, the castle of Bayac is listed as a Historic Monument. Originally owned by the archbishops of Bordeaux, it takes place on the left bank of the Couze, still revealing some original elements such as two towers overlooking the valley, one crenellated which houses Eleanor of Aquitaine's bedroom. and the other with battlements and watchtower.
The addition of a circular courtyard in the 16th century and a main building from the 18th and 19th centuries caused the castle of Bayac to lose its original defensive appearance. It now hosts summer camps.
