Batz-sur-Mer is a commune in the Loire-Atlantique, in the west of France. Formerly located on an island, the city is now integral part of the wild coast of the Guerande peninsula. Between the salt and the Atlantic Ocean, the city is surrounded by the rocky coastline and sandy beaches, offering a unique panorama.

Located about twenty kilometers from Saint-Nazaire, city Batz-sur-Mer is ideal for exploring all the sights of the Loire-Atlantique and appreciate the charms of the Atlantic coast. Between the salt marshes, the historical and architectural heritage, the sandy beaches and the many events organized by the municipality, Batz-sur-Mer lets spend a dream holiday, not far from Brittany.

Things to see and do

Batz-sur-Mer has a rich historical, cultural and architectural very impressive. Churches small seaside houses, tourist attractions abound in the city.

Built in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, the Saint-Guénolé church was built on an old building dedicated to St. Cyr and his mother. It has a steeple of sixty meters high built in the seventeenth century and its organs were on the list of organs Loire protected historical monument. Nearby, the chapel of Our Lady of Mulberry stands. Built in the mid-fifteenth century, it was built to protect the inhabitants from the ravages of the plague in Britain.

The city has an important religious heritage including the wooden cross adorned Roffiat thirteen hearts and dedicated to Our Lady of Happiness, or the cross of Sorrows listed historical monument. The latter is a monument carved in granite menhir between the ninth and eleventh centuries.

Established in 1887, the museum of the salt marshes is a religious native Batz-sur-Mer. On an exhibition area of ​​800 m², it presents different collections related to the region, such as clothing marsh, or different objects of everyday life.

Batz-sur-Mer also houses a museum of the large bunker in one of the best preserved blockhouses of the Atlantic Wall. This recreates a German firing command post and so illustrates the history of the pocket of Saint-Nazaire.

The Moulin de la Falaise was built in the sixteenth century in Guérande, and moved to Batz-sur-Mer in 1924. Renovated in the 90s, it is still in business.

Classified as an historic monument, ancient Trémonday tanks are underground tanks dating from the early seventeenth century.

Batz-sur-Mer commune is partly classified as a natural area of ​​ecological interest, flora and fauna. On the dune of the cliff between Batz-sur-Mer and Le Croisic that may especially enjoy a unique flora and fauna, like the marbled toad or eyelet France.

Events and festivities

Touristic town of Loire-Atlantique, Batz-sur-Mer no shortage of entertainment and celebrations of all kinds!

Throughout the year, Batz-sur-Mer hosts its weekly market on Monday morning from 8 to 13h. In July and August it adds a market on Friday from 8 to 13h. In July, the city also hosts a night market dedicated to crafts and local products, with musical entertainment.

The Salines Nights festival is held annually in July. For three days, many festivities are programmed as a gourmet town, a regional market, initiations to fishing on foot, guided tours of the marshes gallant, or various concerts.

In August, up to the big antique fair in the square of Mulberry, to do good business with many stalls...
