Village des Vosges, Basse-sur-le-Rupt takes place at the door of the High Vosges, in the heart of the Regional Natural Park of Ballons des Vosges. Member of the urban area of La Bresse, it is located in the middle mountain, at the limits of Cornimont or Thiéfosse.
Quite ancient, the commune of Basse-sur-le-Rupt remained in history for a sad event of the Second World War. At that time, La Piquante Pierre, one of the highest peaks of the village, hosted a very active maquis. The latter was completely destroyed in 1944 by the German army. The site is now a place of memory paying tribute to the forty-three guerrillas killed on the spot.
Of modest size, the city of Basse-sur-le-Rupt has none the less an interesting architectural and natural heritage to be discovered passing through the region.
