Banassac is a small village in Lozère, who joined on 1 January 2016. The new Common Banassac-Canilhac fusion. It is located in the district of Mende, adjoining La Canourgue, and takes place at the confluence of the Urugne and Lot.

Ancient village Gallo-Roman, Banassac was once an important center of sigillés ceramics and a coinage center in the Merovingian period. Many remains recently discovered evidence of these productions.

Full of charm and tranquility of the village Banassac kept a large number of monuments testifying to the rich history of the site, and has put forward the importance of its environmental heritage by building several marked hiking trails.

Leisure and entertainment abound in this small village of Lozère which has preserved its history and traditions.

Things to see and do

Charming village in Lozère, Banassac continues to attract visitors with its architecture typical of the region and its interesting leisure.

Set in the village hall, the Archaeological Museum of Banassac opened in 1989. It is in particular discover pottery and other ceramics sigillated of the Gallo-Roman and Merovingian coins minted locally.

Built in red sandstone and limestone, the church Saint-Médard dates from the early twelfth century. She was the first rural parish of Gevaudan in his time. One can also enjoy the charm of the church of Viala, dating meanwhile nineteenth century.
