Listed as an historic monument, the Notre-Dame de Balazuc church, in Ardèche, was replaced in the 19th century by the Sainte-Madeleine church as the parish church of the town. Partly in ruins, it was built in the 11th and 12th centuries.
Originally in Romanesque style, it still unveils an altar table considered to be the oldest vestige of the town. At the top of the apse, it is possible to discover loopholes because the latter was used as a defense tower during the wars of religion. Visitors can also admire the sinks intended for the priest's ablutions as well as the incredible stained-glass windows by Jacques Yankel installed there during the restoration.
