A 22 km northwest of Saint-Afrique and 38 km southwest of Millau, the town of Ayssènes is located south of the Aveyron department (province of Rouergue under the old regime). It extends from the foothills Raspes Tarn Shelf Lévézou. Administrate, it depends on the canton of Saint Rome de Tarn and the riding of Millau. The town has an agricultural to the north (sheep farming for the production of Roquefort), and tourism in the south.
Ayssènes was the country of birth of Antoine Salvanh (1479-1555), architect and builder of the steeple of the Cathedral of Rodez between 1511 and 1526.
