The Grand Rossignol manor is located in the new town of Segré-en-Anjou Bleu, in the Maine-et-Loire department, 17 km south-west of Château-Gontier-sur-Mayenne.
Located to the south-east of the village of Aviré, now integrated into the new community of Segré, the estate is probably occupied by elements built from the 15th century. However, as far as the dwelling is concerned, the buildings currently visible seem to date from the end of the 15th century. We also observe that on the "west" face, bays have been modified over the following centuries. Similarly, a lean-to has been added on the "west" side.
The manor built in schist, freestone and tufa stone (at bay level) was still surrounded by moats at the beginning of the 19th century. At that time, outbuildings dedicated to farming developed on the east of the complex formed a farmyard where a dovecote was located.
Nowadays, we notice that the main building covered by a roof with long sides, two levels high, has at the back, on the "west" side, a stair tower with a square plan and capped by a pavilion.
Sculpted elements, in particular a pediment with cartouche which surmounts the door on the ground floor, have been preserved.
Inside, fireplaces and old joinery have been preserved. Listed in the Inventory, the manor remains at the center of a private property intended for agricultural exploitation.
The domain is not open to the public but it can mark out a walk in a bucolic environment (a specific hiking trail in the village of Avire has been designed). Inquire at +33 2 41 92 17 83.
