Extensive wine castles and fields, including those of Citran to Meyre and Villegeorge punctuate the green landscape surrounded to the north by jalle Tiquetorte, in Gascon jalle designating a river, to the East by Louise, and Dehes the West by the creek. Located only 30 kilometers from Bordeaux, Avensan flourishes on 5224 hectares in the department of Gironde.

Taking its name from a Celtic deity, Avensan crossed the ages enriching its historical heritage. Thus, vases revealed Gallo-Roman presence. Castle Citran but also church and chapels bear witness to the medieval era.

But you can not come to Avensan without having tasted the wines from its vineyards extending over 200 hectares. The three castles welcome you in their cellars for an unforgettable tasting.

Avensan invites you to discover its natural heritage, wine and history.

Castle Citran offers the opportunity to taste the wine from its vineyards, but also to discover its history. Classified as historical monuments since 2012, the first traces of the castle date back to the thirteenth century and mingle with the history of the family Donissan Citran. After six centuries of belonging to the same family, the castle was sold several times and always enhanced by its subsequent purchasers until the current owner. A vineyard full of history to discover around a glass of wine.

Castle Meyre, now a hotel, continuous operation of its vineyards, and for three centuries. The field is discovered by guided tour ended with a vintage wine tasting. The castle also offers tasty discoveries on "food and wine". A delight for the taste buds not to be missed.

Avensan was the birthplace of Pey Berland, who became archbishop of Bordeaux in 1430. In his lifetime, he transformed his birthplace into a chapel, called the Chapel Saint-Raphaël. Featuring a wide porch, it still houses Masses and ceremonies.

The church Avensan magnificent Romanesque building, received Pey Berland remarkable reliefs. You will discover as the splendid architecture of the building.

Events and festivities

During July, do not miss the party at Avensan Raphael. Several events are scheduled this warm and friendly weekend. Competition skeet and bowls open the festivities. The traditional hike is open to seasoned hikers inscriptions like Sunday strollers. Jambonnade and wine country close first day of this traditional festival. On Sunday, it's time rewards. Awards ceremony and wine of honor punctuate the day. But especially on Sunday begins with the traditional Mass in the chapel of Saint Raphael, ancient birthplace of Pey Berland, the child of the country became archbishop of Bordeaux.
