Castle of Montréal-de-Sos

Monument in Auzat

Located in the town of Auzat, in Ariege, the castle of Montreal de Sos was one of the most important of the counts of Foix in medieval times. Built in the late twelfth century, it was deliberately leveled by its owners at the beginning of the fifteenth century. Today it is in ruins, not to admire a large enclosure with two towers and a former aristocratic district.

Originally hill forts from the Iron Age, the site has been, since 2000, several archaeological campaigns matter. Accessible year round, it can be discovered through guided tours, lectures or thematic educational workshops.
