Overlooking the Garonne Valley from the top of its hill, the village of Auvillar, a stop along the Way of St. James, has the distinction of being listed among the most beautiful villages of France.

Once you cross the door of the imposing 17th-century clock tower, you will be delighted to discover Auvillar's main square, which is superb with its unusual circular corn exchange, standing on Tuscan columns, and its ancient timber-framed arcade houses. Not far away is a panoramic viewpoint complete with a viewpoint indicator located on the site of the old castle, offering a beautiful view of the Garonne and its valley.

A place to visit is the Museum of Old Auvillar, which is dedicated to art and popular traditions, and contains a remarkable collection of local ceramics made in the 18th and 19th centuries.

For lovers of local produce, a farmer's market takes place every Sunday morning in the market hall!

Stop on the roads of St Jacques de Compostelle, the old Gallo-Roman oppidum dominates the valley of the Garonne.

The village is accessed through a door surmounted by a tower known as the clock tower (17th century). Unique in the southwest, the circular hall in the heart of the village was rebuilt in the 19th century. Outside the city, is the former Benedictine priory, which has become the current St Peter's Church. Important center of navigation, the port retains its chapel dedicated to St. Catherine, patron saint of sailors.
