Château Thévenot is located in the town of Audincourt, in the Doubs department, 7 km south-east of Montbéliard.
This residence was built in the 18th century for the Thévenot family, who then owned a vast area of land in the locality, before its industrialization began (it was one of the cradles of the Peugeot group).
In fact, the family of car manufacturers subsequently became the owner of the premises. Nowadays, the castle houses the city's media library.
The original two-storey high building, not counting the attic floors, has been preserved and presents the characteristics of the architecture of the region: we observe in particular the use of pink sandstone for the window frame and a decorative band delimiting the floors. The imposing four-sided roof and the arched lintels are also remarkable. Finally, we note that the corner stones are visible. Inside, a large central staircase has been fitted.
Endowed with a beautiful park bordering the course of the Doubs, the property was also chosen in the 19th century to house a new building built for this purpose for the city's gendarmerie.
Listed in the Inventory, now a place of culture adjoining the paths of a public park, the castle is accessible to borrow books or records, but workshops, readings and meetings are also organized there throughout the year. Information on +33 3 81 36 37 58.
