Building of the High Middle Ages located in the town of Aubeterre-sur-Dronne, the castle of Aubeterre was originally an important stronghold. Built on a mound which initially housed a monolithic church, it welcomed the first lords of Aubeterre until the end of the 13th century.
Taken and recaptured several times during the Hundred Years War, the Château d'Aubeterre then gradually fell into disuse. The ruins were bought in the second half of the 20th century by Madame Moulinier who decided to save them. Became a sumptuous residence in the 1970s, it has been listed as a Historic Monument for its postern, its dwelling, its Renaissance chapel and the remains of the enclosure with the Saint-Jean tower.
