Things to see and do

Significant of the Cathars in France, the village of Arques still has some beautiful sights recalling that period of history.

Former stronghold of the late thirteenth century the castle Arques was classified historic monument to the late nineteenth century. Former property of the lords of terms, he has all the attributes of a castle as the keep the curtains or the fortified gate, but did not have the status. The strong Arques house consists of an enclosure and a high square tower, and was built just after the crusade against the Albigensians. Planted on an isolated hill, the castle also has a beautiful Gothic door, and is a fine example of medieval Gothic architecture of the time.

The ticket of Arques castle also provides access to the house of Déodat Roché. It bears the name of a former magistrate and historian specializing in the Cathars. It has now visitors a very interesting exhibition dedicated to Catharism and its impact on the region. It reveals a large number of documents of the period and details of this religious current.
