The Saint-Pierre church, today in the state of vestiges, is located in the commune of Armissan, in the department of Aude, 7 km north-east of Narbonne.
It was built in the 13th century, succeeding a chapel dating from the 9th century. The church then served the parishes of Armissan and Vinassan, a neighboring village to the north. And at that time, it depended on the old monastery of Saint-Pierre-du-Lec, which has now disappeared.
At the start of the 15th century, however, the building lost its status as a parish church. It then deteriorated over the centuries.
There is now only a section of wall 10 m long, 9 m high and 1.40 m thick (dimensions which have enabled it to survive…). This wall (known locally as "the wall") is still pierced by what was the door of the church, and we can observe at this level elements of Romanesque architecture (bretèche resting on a lowered arch, corbels).
Listed in the Inventory, this unique ruin can mark a walk in this bucolic sector of the Clape massif, which overlooks the sea.
