Founded in 1986 by Michel Louis, a man who has been passionate about the animal kingdom since childhood, Amnéville Zoo in Moselle now covers 18 hectares and is home to more than 2,000 animals of 360 different species from all over the world.
Numerous themed areas are open to visitors, including the three hectares of the African plain, the aquatic world of the Bay of Sea Lions, the Amazon jungle with its jaguars, tapirs and marmosets, the tropical paradise of Peruvia Bay, the Gorilla's Camp, the tropical vivarium, the Orang-utan Jungle and the little farm in the forest with its familiar domesticated animals.
A number of activities offer some amazing experiences. In "À tire d'ailes", two bird-lovers display around fifteen parrots performing in a colourful half-hour-long ballet with an unforgettable finale.
A free-flying bird of prey attraction features the zoo's falconers on horseback in a 2,500-seat arena. The stunning finale sees around sixty birds released at the same time! The sea lion show in an exceptional installation always impresses audiences, whatever their age. Kids will be thrilled to learn that you can also watch the Humboldt penguins, gorillas, wolves and hippopotamuses at feeding time, while listening to a commentary.
