The peninsula of Ambialet is entwined by a bend of the Tarn river 3 km long, dominated by a priory (former monastery) and an 11th century Romanesque church built on its schistose needle. The town is located on the Méridienne Verte in the wake of the Tarn valley.
Exceptional natural site and witness to a rich history!
In the Middle Ages, Ambialet was the seat of the Vicomté des Trencavels, rivals of the counts of Toulouse, then was occupied by Simon de Montfort during the crusade against the Albigenses (Cathar period).
The ruins of Castella and the configuration of the site with its forts bear witness to the grandeur of Ambialet.
The picturesque site can be visited all year round. The best period is from spring to early winter.
Ambialet has joined the Small Towns of Character network since 2018 and the Grand Site Occitanie Sud de France Albi, Vallée du Tarn since 2019.
