Albiez-Montrond is an authentic mountain village, located 1 hour from Chambéry, above Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne.
Previously split into two municipalities, Albiez le Vieux and Montrond came together in 1972 to form the municipality called Albiez-Montrond.
The ski resort which has developed since the 1950s on the territory of the municipality of Albiez le Vieux, is marketed under the name "Albiez" and brings together three municipalities, Albiez le Jeune located in the North, Albiez le Vieux in the center and Montrond located in the south.
In the heart of the mountains, the administrative center and its villages are a haven of tranquility to recharge your batteries and enjoy the fantastic landscape. At the same time very close to the mountain, this vast moraine plateau 12 km long and 3 km wide, cut by torrents, offers a pleasant feeling of freedom and a panoramic view of all the surrounding massifs.
Made up of several villages, the town stretches from Gevoudaz at an altitude of 753 m to Mollard at 1,616 m and Chalmieu at an altitude of 1,580 m.
Literally clinging to the pastures, we sometimes wonder what motivated Neolithic people to settle here, in the middle of the mountains (many traces of ancient occupation of the Iron Age - around 500 BC). JC - including in particular collapsed tombs containing bronze pins, bracelets, fibulae and amber grains).
Located in Maurienne, in the heart of Savoy, the town of Albiez-Montrond is dominated to the east by Mont Emy (2797 m) and the ridge that runs up to the superb Aiguilles d'Arves in the south -Is at 3514 m.
Today, the population of Albiez-Montrond is about 300 inhabitants, it has not stopped growing since 1972. Tourism and milk production for the manufacture of Beaufort AOP at the dairy cooperative of the valley of Arves, awarded many times at the agricultural competition in Paris, are the two main economic activities of the town.
You can, if you wish, attend the milking in the pastures, in summer, thanks to the mobile milking installations, the milking is carried out as close as possible to the pastures. Pulled by a tractor, it makes it possible to install the equipment necessary for milking in the high meadows and to move it as the animals progressively climb. The milk is then lowered into 4x4s and then transported every morning to the St Sorlin cooperative.
The schools in the villages of La Villette and Chalmieu closed in the 70s and 80s, they have become rural lodgings, including that of La Villette is open all year round and offers quality catering with local products. Children of school age go to primary at the brand new school in Albiez, it welcomes around fifty children.
The climate is characterized by excellent sunshine, 1973 h / year, long snowfall (almost 6 months), low precipitation, 960 mm / year, and finally exceptional luminosity. The sky over the Albiez-Montrond plateau is often referred to as Mediterranean.
In the past, these advantages made it the wheat country of the whole Pays d'Arvan (named after the torrent which rises at the foot of the St Sorlin glacier before flowing into the Arc) and wheat used to gild its ears up to 1,600 m above sea level.
