The lapidary museum of archeology Aix-les-Bains, Savoy, is housed since 1948 in a part of the Temple of Diana, one of only three ancient temples perfectly preserved in France. The name "Diane", however, is certainly inherited from the Middle Ages. In antiquity, the building may indeed have been dedicated to Borvo, god of warm waters in Celtic mythology.
The museum includes pieces from the museum created in 1872 Lepic and lapidary Gallo-Roman collections collected over the excavations on the shores of Lake Bourget where human settlements were many from the Bronze Age.
The museum thus allows to admire inside the Temple but also a beautiful marble torso, a remarkable head of Venus, coins, brooches, glassware and ceramics from different eras.
The fund also presented to better understand the history of the city in Roman times and evokes the history of noble families who lived there, and regularly took advantage of the spa of the future city of Aix.
The Temple and therefore the museum are located in the grounds of the City Hall. Open every day but access via a guided tour only.
